1、 What are the functions of different types of geogrids
As a material commonly used in road construction, geogrids play an important role in road construction. At the same time, geogrids are also divided into different types. Today we will introduce the role of different types of geogrids.
There are four kinds of geogrids. Let’s introduce them:
1. Unidirectional plastic geogrid function:
Uniaxial tensile geogrid is a high-strength geosynthetic material. It is widely used in embankment, tunnel, wharf, highway, railway, construction and other fields. Its main uses are as follows: strengthen the subgrade, effectively distribute the diffusion load, improve the stability and bearing capacity of the subgrade, and extend the service life. It can withstand greater alternating load. Prevent subgrade deformation and cracking caused by loss of subgrade materials. It can improve the self-bearing capacity of the filling behind the retaining wall, reduce the earth pressure of the retaining wall, save costs, extend the service life, and reduce maintenance costs. Combined with shotcrete and anchor concrete construction method, slope maintenance can not only save 30% – 50% of the investment, but also shorten the construction period by more than twice. Adding geogrids to the subgrade and surface layer of the highway can reduce the deflection, reduce the rutting, delay the crack occurrence time by 3-9 times, and reduce the thickness of the structural layer by 36%. It is applicable to all kinds of soil, without the need for materials from other places, and saves labor and time. The construction is simple and fast, which can greatly reduce the construction cost. Joint extension of geogrid, quality assurance.

2. Role of two-way plastic geogrid:
Increase the bearing capacity of the road (ground) foundation and prolong the service life of the road (ground) foundation. Prevent the collapse or crack of the road (ground) surface and keep the ground beautiful and tidy. Convenient construction, time-saving, labor-saving, shorten the construction period and reduce maintenance costs. Prevent the culvert from cracking. Strengthen soil slope and prevent water and soil loss. Reduce the thickness of the cushion and save the cost. Support the stable greening environment of grass-planting mat on the slope. It can replace metal mesh and be used for false roof mesh in coal mine.
3. Role of steel-plastic geogrid:
It is mainly used in the fields of soft soil foundation reinforcement, retaining wall and pavement crack resistance engineering of highways, railways, abutments, approaches, wharves, revetments, dams, slag yards, etc.
4. Function of glass fiber geogrid:
The old asphalt concrete pavement is reinforced to strengthen the asphalt surface and prevent diseases. The cement concrete pavement is reconstructed into a composite pavement to prevent reflection cracks caused by plate shrinkage. Road expansion and reconstruction works, preventing cracks caused by new and old junction and uneven settlement. The reinforcement treatment of soft soil foundation is conducive to the water separation and consolidation of soft soil, effectively restraining settlement, uniform stress distribution, and enhancing the overall strength of the subgrade. The semi-rigid base of the new road produces shrinkage cracks, and the reinforcement is used to prevent the pavement cracks caused by the reflection of the foundation cracks.

2、 How good is the anti-fatigue cracking performance of geogrid
Geogrid uses high-strength polyester fiber or polypropylene fiber as raw material, adopts warp knitting directional structure, and the warp and weft yarns in the fabric are free from bending, and the intersection is bound and combined with high-strength fiber filament to form a solid binding point, giving full play to its mechanical properties. So do you know how good its fatigue crack resistance is?
The main effect of the asphalt overlay on the old cement concrete pavement is to improve the application function of the pavement, but it has little contribution to the bearing effect. The rigid concrete pavement under the overlay still plays a crucial bearing effect. The asphalt overlay on the old asphalt concrete pavement is different. The asphalt overlay will bear the load together with the old asphalt concrete pavement. Therefore, the asphalt overlay on the asphalt concrete pavement will not only show reflection cracks, but also show fatigue cracks due to the long-term effect of the load. Let’s analyze the loading condition of the asphalt overlay on the old asphalt concrete pavement: because the asphalt overlay is a flexible surface layer with the same property as the asphalt overlay, when subjected to the load effect, the pavement will have deflection. The asphalt overlay that directly touches the wheel is under pressure, and the surface is subject to tensile force in the area outside the wheel load margin. Because the force properties of the two stress areas are different and close to each other, it is easy to be damaged at the junction of the two stress areas, namely the sudden change of force. Under the effect of long-term load, fatigue cracking occurs.
Geogrid can disperse the above compressive stress and tensile stress in the asphalt overlay to form a buffer zone between the two stress areas, where the stress changes gradually rather than suddenly, reducing the damage of the stress sudden change to the asphalt overlay. The low elongation of the glass fiber geogrid reduces the deflection of the pavement and ensures that the pavement will not have transition deformation.
Unidirectional geogrid is extruded into thin sheets by polymer (polypropylene PP or polyethylene HDPE), then punched into regular hole network, and then stretched longitudinally. In this process, the polymer is in a linear state, forming a long elliptical network structure with uniform distribution and high node strength.
Unidirectional grid is a kind of high-strength geosynthetic material, which can be divided into unidirectional polypropylene grid and unidirectional polyethylene grid.
Uniaxial tensile geogrid is a kind of high-strength geotextile with high molecular polymer as the main raw material, added with certain anti ultraviolet and anti-aging agents. After uniaxial tension, the original distributed chain molecules are reoriented to a linear state, and then extruded into a thin plate, impacting the conventional mesh, and then stretched longitudinally. Material Science.
In this process, the polymer is guided by linear state, forming a long elliptical network structure with uniform distribution and high node strength. This structure has very high tensile strength and tensile modulus. The tensile strength is 100-200Mpa, which is close to the level of low carbon steel, and is much better than traditional or existing reinforcement materials.
In particular, this product has ultra-high early international level (elongation of 2% – 5%) tensile strength and tensile modulus. It provides an ideal system for soil commitment and diffusion. This product has high tensile strength (>150Mpa) and is suitable for all kinds of soil. It is a widely used reinforcing material at present. Its main characteristics are high tensile strength, good creep performance, convenient construction and low price.
