Deformation Adaptability and Contact Leakage Problems of Geomembranes

News

In order to form a complete and closed anti-seepage system, in addition to the sealing connection between geomembranes, the scientific connection between geomembranes and surrounding foundations or structures is also crucial. If the surrounding area is a clay structure, the method of layering, bending and burying the geomembrane and compacting the clay layer by layer can be used to tightly combine the geomembrane with the clay. After careful construction, there is generally no contact seepage between the two. In actual projects, it is also common to encounter the connection of the geomembrane with rigid concrete structures such as spillway and cut-off wall. At this time, the connection design of the geomembrane should consider the deformation adaptability and contact leakage of the geomembrane at the same time, that is, it is necessary to reserve deformation space and ensure close connection with the surrounding.

Design of Geomembrane and Surrounding Leakage Prevention Connection
Two points to note are that the turning point at the top of the geomembrane should gradually transition to smoothly absorb the non coordinated deformation between the settlement of the geomembrane under water pressure and the surrounding concrete structure. In actual operation, the geomembrane may not be able to unfold, and even crush and damage the vertical section; In addition, the anchoring point of the concrete structure is not pre embedded with channel steel, which is prone to contact seepage. This is because the diameter of water molecules is about 10 to 4 μ m. It is easy to pass through small gaps. The water pressure test for the design of geomembrane connections shows that even with measures such as using rubber gaskets, densifying bolts, or increasing bolt force on concrete surfaces that appear to be flat to the naked eye, contact leakage may still occur under the action of high-pressure water heads. When the geomembrane is directly connected to the concrete structure, the contact leakage at the surrounding connection can be effectively avoided or controlled by brushing the bottom adhesive and setting a gasket.
Design of Geomembrane and Surrounding Leakage Prevention Connection
It can be seen that for the high head geomembrane anti-seepage reservoir project, it is particularly important to improve the flatness and tightness of the connection when the geomembrane is connected to the surrounding concrete structural join.
