Functions of medical nursing beds

News

Medical nursing bed is a specialized bed designed to meet the rehabilitation and nursing needs of patients, integrating safety, comfort, and functionality. Its functional design revolves around the daily care, treatment needs, and nursing efficiency of patients, mainly including the following core aspects:

1、 Position adjustment function

This is the most basic and important function of the nursing bed, which can be adjusted from multiple angles through electric or manual control to meet the different needs of patients:

Back lifting: The upper part of the bed board can be lifted (usually at an angle of 0 ° -70 °) to help patients complete movements such as sitting up, eating, and reading, avoiding pressure ulcers or lung infections caused by long-term lying down.

Leg lifting: The lower part of the bed board can be bent or lifted (at an angle of 0 ° -40 °), which can promote blood circulation in the lower limbs, reduce edema, and also facilitate patients to bend their knees and lift their legs.

• Overall tilt: The bed can be tilted forward or backward as a whole (at a smaller angle) to assist patients in changing positions, reduce local pressure, and facilitate nursing staff in wiping and changing bed sheets.

2、 Security protection function

For patients with limited mobility or unclear consciousness, nursing beds are equipped with multiple safety designs:

Guardrail protection: The guardrails on both sides can be raised and lowered, making it convenient for patients to get in and out of bed when lowered, and preventing patients from falling off the bed when raised. Some guardrails also have locking devices to prevent accidental folding.

Anti pressure ulcer design: The bed surface is mostly made of breathable materials, and some high-end models are equipped with air mattresses. By alternately inflating, the pressure distribution is changed, effectively preventing pressure ulcers caused by long-term bed rest.

Emergency braking: The electric nursing bed is equipped with an emergency stop button, which can quickly cut off the power in case of an emergency, ensuring patient safety.

3、 Auxiliary nursing function

To improve nursing efficiency and reduce the burden on nursing staff, nursing beds often include the following designs:

• Table board: Foldable table board, convenient for patients to dine, write or place items on the bed, can be folded when not in use, and does not occupy space.

• Infusion rack interface: A reserved installation position for infusion racks is provided on the side of the bed, making it easy for patients to receive infusion therapy on the bed without the need for additional movement.

Toilet hole and basin holder: Some nursing beds are equipped with openable toilet holes, which work together with the basin holder below. Patients can defecate without getting out of bed, reducing the need for nursing staff to move, especially suitable for paralyzed or postoperative patients.

4、 Mobile and fixed functions

The bottom of the nursing bed is usually equipped with universal wheels with brakes, which not only facilitate the movement of patients (such as transferring them to the examination room), but also fix the bed in a designated position by locking the brakes to prevent sliding during use.

5、 Personalized adaptation function

For special patient needs, some nursing beds also have personalized designs, such as:

Ultra low bed height design, suitable for elderly patients who are prone to falling off the bed;

Roll over function, assisting patients in turning over and reducing nursing intensity;

Electric remote control operation, convenient for patients to adjust their position and enhance autonomy.

In summary, the functional design of medical nursing beds is centered around “patient comfort, convenient care, safety and reliability”. Through multi-dimensional functional combinations, it provides comprehensive care support for patients who are bedridden for a long time, have postoperative rehabilitation, and have limited mobility.
