Geomembrane is a geosynthetic material used for anti-seepage and isolation. The construction steps must strictly follow the specifications to ensure the quality of the project. The core steps are as follows:
1、 Preparation before construction
Site cleaning: Remove debris, stones, tree roots, etc. from the construction area, level the site, ensure a solid foundation without sharp objects, and avoid puncturing the geomembrane.
Material inspection: Check the specifications, models, and quality certification documents of the geomembrane, inspect the appearance for defects such as damage and holes, and do not use unqualified materials.
Equipment preparation: Prepare welding machines (such as hot air guns, double track welding machines, etc.), cutting tools, edge pressing tools, etc., and ensure that the equipment operates normally.
2、 Laying of geomembrane
Laying direction: Determine the laying direction based on the engineering design and site terrain, usually along the slope or length direction to reduce joints.
Laying method: Manual or mechanical assistance is used for laying. During laying, the geomembrane should be tightened to avoid wrinkles. The overlap width between adjacent geomembranes is generally 10-15cm (according to design requirements).
3、 Seam treatment
Welding seams: For HDPE and other weldable geomembranes, a welding machine is used for hot melt welding. During welding, temperature, pressure, and speed are controlled to ensure that the weld seam is firm and there are no missed welds.
Adhesive joints: Some geomembranes can be bonded with specialized adhesives to ensure a tight bond. The adhesive should be applied evenly and the joints should be compacted to ensure a tight bond.
4、 Quality inspection and repair
Appearance inspection: Check whether the surface of the geomembrane is damaged and whether the joints are smooth.
Sealing test: Conduct air pressure or water pressure testing on the weld seam. If leakage is found, repair it promptly using welding or adhesive methods.
5、 Laying of protective layer
According to the design requirements, a protective layer such as sand, concrete, or geotextile should be laid on the surface of the geomembrane to prevent damage to the geomembrane.
The above steps need to be adjusted according to the specific engineering design and the type of geomembrane. During construction, the operating procedures should be strictly followed to ensure the anti-seepage effect.
