1、 Construction preparation
1. Site cleaning
Remove weeds, stones, tree roots, and other debris from the construction area to ensure a smooth foundation.
If it is a soft soil foundation, pre-treatment (such as replacement, compaction, etc.) should be carried out according to the design requirements to ensure that the bearing capacity of the foundation meets the standards.
2. Material inspection
Check the model, specifications, and appearance of the geogrid (without damage or pollution) to ensure compliance with design requirements.
Prepare supporting materials: U-shaped nails (for fixing, mostly made of steel or plastic), binding ropes for overlapping, etc.
3. Equipment preparation
Equipped with compaction machinery (roller, flatbed compactor), cutting tools (knife, scissors), measuring instruments (tape measure, level), etc.
2、 Laying process
1. Cable laying and positioning
According to the design drawings, determine the laying range, direction (usually consistent with the main stress direction, such as the longitudinal direction of the road subgrade along the route), and overlap width (generally not less than 30cm) of the geogrid with white ash or markings.
2. Laying geogrid
Manually unfold the geogrid to ensure it is flat and wrinkle free, and tighten it as much as possible (with the help of mechanical assistance) to avoid looseness affecting the stress effect.
The overlapping method of adjacent two grilles: usually using the overlapping method (aligning and overlapping the long sides), and in some scenes using the sewing method (sewing with special thread) or welding method (for plastic grilles).
3. Fixed grille
Use U-shaped nails (15-30cm in length, 1-2m apart) to fix the grid to the base, especially at the overlap and edges, to prevent displacement during the laying process.
If laid on a slope, it should be laid from the bottom to the top of the slope, and each grid should be additionally fixed at the top and foot of the slope to prevent sliding.
4. Backfilling and covering
After the grid is laid, the first layer of soil should be backfilled in a timely manner (the filling material should meet the design requirements to avoid sharp stones piercing the grid), and the backfill thickness is usually 20-30cm.
Gently compact with a lightweight roller or flatbed compactor (avoiding direct mechanical crushing of the grid) to prevent deformation of the grid during subsequent construction.
5. Layered construction
Follow the process of “laying grid → backfilling → compaction” in layers, and the thickness and compaction degree of each layer of backfill soil should meet the design standards (generally compaction degree ≥ 90%).
If multiple layers of grating are required, the spacing between layers should be executed according to the design requirements, and the overlapping joints of the upper and lower layers of grating should be staggered (to avoid overlapping in the same position).
3、 Construction precautions
• Avoid damage: During construction, it is forbidden for machinery to directly crush uncovered grids. When handling, handle with care to prevent tearing.
Weather impact: Construction should not be carried out on rainy days to avoid the sliding of the grid caused by muddy foundations; During windy weather, it is necessary to promptly fix the installed grille to prevent it from being blown up by the wind.
Quality inspection: After laying each layer, check whether the grille is flat, whether the overlap is firm, and whether there is any damage. If any problems are found, repair or replace them in a timely manner.
Special scenario: During slope construction, it is necessary to adjust the laying angle according to the slope gradient, and if necessary, set up anchoring ditches; In roadbed widening projects, it is necessary to effectively connect with the original roadbed to ensure overall stress.
Through the above steps, it can be ensured that the geogrid is effectively combined with the soil, fully exerting its reinforcement and strengthening effects, and improving the stability and durability of the engineering structure.
