What are the repair methods for aged color steel coils?
The core of aging repair for color steel coils lies in targeted treatment based on the extent of damage, prioritizing loss prevention (preventing corrosion spread) before restoring protective performance. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Mild aging (only discoloration and powdering of the coating, no damage or corrosion)

• First, thoroughly clean the surface: use a neutral detergent and a soft brush to remove dust and oil stains, rinse with a high-pressure water gun, and then let it dry to avoid impurities affecting the repair adhesion;

• Sanding and texturing: Gently sand the surface of the coating with fine sandpaper to enhance the adhesion of the new coating;

• Touch-up protection: Apply a special paint for color steel (such as PVDF or HDP topcoat) of the same type as the original coating, thinly and multiple times, to ensure even coverage and restore UV resistance and corrosion resistance.

2. Moderate deterioration (coating damage, localized substrate rusting)

• Rust removal treatment: Use an angle grinder with a wire brush to grind the rusted areas until the clean substrate is exposed. The edges should be ground into a smooth transition surface to avoid sharp edges causing cracks in the new coating;

• Rust prevention primer: Apply epoxy zinc-rich primer, utilizing the zinc layer as a sacrificial anode to protect the substrate. Allow the primer to fully dry according to product instructions;

• Surface layer repair: Apply intermediate paint and topcoat in sequence, ensuring a natural connection with the surrounding intact coating, and eliminating any noticeable color differences and joints.

3. Severe aging (severe corrosion of the substrate, appearance of holes/deformation)

• Partial replacement: Cut off the severely damaged area, extract a section of color steel coil of the same specification and material, polish the edges, and then fix it with self-tapping screws or rivets. Apply weather-resistant sealant to seal the joints;

• Overall renovation: If the aging area exceeds 30% and local repair has limited effect, it is recommended to completely remove the old color steel coils and replace them with new high-quality color steel coils to fundamentally solve the aging problem.

• Before repairing, ensure that the construction environment is dry and well-ventilated, and avoid operating during rainy or high humidity weather;
